The public transportation around the KIT can be seen at Kansai area map.
The most convenient way to the KIT is taking a subway.
From the nearest subway station, Matsugasaki, to the KIT, it takes about 5 minutes by walk.
The subway is run by Kyoto City and the main
line is connected with JR Kyoto Station and with Hankyu Karasuma Station.
The conference will be held at the building No 22 in Campas map.
from Kansai International Airport to JR Kyoto Station:
The easiest (but not the cheapest) way to Kyoto is to get on the JR express "Haruka".
The JR railway is linked with the airport.
The time table is here. from Kansai Airport to the downtown of Kyoto,
for a lover of adventure:
The second choice is to use a bus.
From the airport to Kyoto Station it takes about 100 minutes by bus.
The time table is available here.
For more information, please visit
the official site of Kansai Airport.
A more tricky and the (probably) cheapest way is as follows:
(BUT, we do not recommend it to you unless
you have much time and you could enjoy it even if you would get lost in the chaotic city Osaka.)
First, you choose Nankai line instead of JR line.
(Nankai line is also linked with the airport.)
You should purchase a Nankai ticket for "Shin-Imamiya" or, if possible, for "JR Osaka"
via "Shin-Imamiya" at a Nankai's vending machine
and get on a normal Nankai train.
(Caution: You have to pay an extra charge if you get on the limited Nankai express
named "Rapi:t".)
At Shin-Imamiya station, you change the line to JR.
The next destination is Osaka Station.
(Both directions may be chosen because the line is a loop. But, you should follow the
indications in order to save your time.)
At Osaka Station, you again change the line to Hankyu.
This time, you must walk some distance from JR Osaka Station to Hankyu Umeda Station.
You should be careful about the indication to Hankyu line.
Even local people can lose their ways around Osaka Station.
You can take a limited express at Hankyu Umeda Station because you will not be
surcharged. But, you must get on a train bound for "Kawaramachi" Station.
(Note that there are three directions from Umeda Station.)
If you wish to take a subway in Kyoto, you should get off at "Karasuma" Station.
Otherwise, the terminal "Kawaramachi" Station is most attractive for tourists.
from Tokyo Narita Airport to JR Kyoto Station:
It is convenient to use the JR "Narita Express" from Narita to Tokyo, and "Shinkansen" express from Tokyo to Kyoto. Please note that the domestic flight from Narita to Osaka is not so frequent and the connection between Osaka Itami airport and Kyoto is not very convenient. More information can be found at the official site of Narita Airport.
The other route:
Please consult Sugawa.
Finding accommodations in Kyoto during midsummer could be very difficult. (In particular, on 16th of August, "Daimonji bonfire festival" will be held. On the period of bonfire, many people visit Kyoto, and as a result, hotel vacancy will be quite small. So, you must be careful if you wish to extend your stay at Kyoto.) So we recommend the intending participants to start finding hotels in Kyoto as soon as possible.
If you will mainly attend the NDDS, you may make reservations of hotel rooms through the organizers of NDDS (but not later than 12 July). If the hotel is located in the heart of Kyoto City, you don't need to change hotels. The KIT is just nearby a subway station. Therefore, it is not difficult to find a convenient way to the KIT from your hotel in that case.
Otherwise, here are some suggestions on accommodations.
We had reserved a certain number of rooms in Kyoto Garden Hotel from August 9th to 12th, but we have released them except for those reserved for specific participants. Therefore, we can no longer arrange your stay at this hotel. The hotel is located in the downtown area and very close to Karasuma-Oike subway station, from which it takes 12 min. by subway to go to Matsugasaki, the nearest station to Kyoto Institute of Technology. Hotel rates (including tax) are 6090JPY for a single room and 10500JPY for a twin room per night, respectively. More information about Kyoto Garden Hotel can be found here. This web site also admits an online reservation.
When you try to make reservations through the Internet, the following site would be very useful:
though the Japanese counterpart may offer many and cheaper rooms (even for the same hotel).
The following web sites may also be helpful when you search hotels in Kyoto city: various, low end, and high end.
If you need a help to find a hotel in Kyoto, you can send a request to Sugawa with details such as the number of accompanying persons and the period of stay at Kyoto, though we cannot guarantee the success.
